I've been working on revisions for almost three months now. I know, it's part of the writing process. But sometimes, the thing we love can be painful.
Enjoy these fun quotes about the pleasure and pain of writing!
"Writing a novel is like making love, but it’s also like having a tooth
pulled. Pleasure and pain. Sometimes it’s like making love while
having a tooth pulled." ~ Dean Koontz
"I get an urge, like a pregnant elephant, to go away and give birth to a book." ~ Stephen Fry
"Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an
amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it
becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be
reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him to the
public." ~ Winston Churchill
"When writing a novel, that's pretty much entirely what life turns into:
"House burned down. Car stolen. Cat exploded. Did 1500 easy words, so
all in all it was a pretty good day." ~ Neil Gaiman
"Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of
some painful illness. One would never undertake such as ting if one were
not driven by some demon whom one can neither resist or (sic)
understand." ~ George Orwell
"Writing is the hardest way of earning a living, with the possible exception of wrestling alligators." ~ William Saroyan
As much hard work as it is, I'd rather write a book than wrestle alligators :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes, reminding us that it really isn't supposed to be easy.
I've voted for The Harbinger, good luck!
I voted for HARBENGER and shared the vote.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite quote is the Stephan Fry one. After the fun of writing the first draft, the hard work that follows is like giving birth to an elephant.
Thanks for great quotes Christine. Good to know we're not suffering alone. :)

I feel your pain regarding revisions; it's my least favourite part of the process. Good luck with yours.
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes. I especially loved the one from Neil Gaiman, he always amuses me.
Good luck with the revisions. And thanks for the quotes. I especially liked Neil Gaiman's.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it can also be fun. So I've heard anyway.

Moody Writing
Good luck!! I still prefer writing over my regular job ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes, thanks for sharing. After I've done the first edit I want to chuck it to someone else to finish while I go on to the next book. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'd never read the Koontz quote before - cracked me up. :D
ReplyDeleteLOL! Love those quotes! The one by Churchill is particularly true.
ReplyDeleteHappy you all like the quotes. Thank you for voting for me. :) Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteVoted. :) Ah, revisions. I'm currently in the middle of my fifth round of revisions on a book, so I feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the quotes!
It is a struggle! I don't want to imagine having a tooth pulled while making love though.
ReplyDeleteI especially liked the last quote. From Miami, I know wrestling gators! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteHi Christine, these are some great quotes! Dean Koontz's quote was my favorite listed, even though I've never read it either. He's my second favorite writer behind good ole Stevie King. :) Anyway, I'm now in the middle of revising my manuscript from November's NaNo, and yeah, it's not looking pretty right now. I've got my work cut out for me. Keep plugging away, and I will 'see' you again at next month's meeting. Happy Wednesday. Lily
ReplyDeleteThanks, girl. I needed to read this. I feel like I've been wrestling alligators, and it's pretty easy compared to this writing thing.
ReplyDeleteI love those quotes. It's so nice to know it's difficult even for famous writers. Going to vote.
ReplyDeleteThose darn revisions!
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes.
My goodness, I know what you mean about those revisions! I thought the last set might kill me, but as it turns out, I'm still alive. It seriously took an entire month to get through 50 pages. Ug. Well, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger...
ReplyDeleteRewrites are such a hassle, and yet, they can bring such satisfaction too. Thanks for the quotes and best of luck with your revisions!
ReplyDeleteI ALWAYS enjoy reading quotes about writing. It reminds me that others have been in my place and more will be. :)
ReplyDeleteI adore the quotes, especially the last two. Writing is murder and every day I get resurrected and start all over again. Good luck on your revisions! :)
ReplyDeleteArrgh on the tyrant phase. The toy phase is the funnest.
ReplyDeleteLoved the quote about the alligators--that sums it up!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your revisions!
lol. Thanks for the chuckle. I can feel your pain. I've been editing even longer... le sigh.
ReplyDeleteNeil Gaiman pretty much nailed it for me.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, it's an adventure to be sure! And sometimes, I have no idea where it's taking me. ;)
ReplyDeleteSometimes I'd rather face an alligator than do edits :P
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with yours!
Ha! Those are awesome quotes! Thanks for sharing! My day is totally made now, lol=)
ReplyDeleteThose are some great quotes! I love Churchill's quote best. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, revisions are definitely not my favorite part of writing, but necessary. Good luck!
I wonder if I should take Hubby to my next dental appointment...
ReplyDeleteHaving a tooth pulled out while making love. So evocative but I wouldnt want to try, hahaha. Writing a book is hard no doubt.
