Saturday Six for July 7th

1. I've been without air-conditioning for a week. We might have it fixed on Sunday. Maybe. IF what the guy says is wrong with the unit is the only thing that's wrong. I can't think in the hot weather. I can't write. I'm barely tolerable. So no writing was done. It's incredibly frustrating. I'm so far behind where I want to be. Please excuse me that I didn't do much commenting or emailing this past week. Sitting at the computer drains me in the heat.

2. I haven't finished my steampunk short story. I'll have to pick something else to submit to my writer's group for critique this month. I might send in the first chapter of my newest project and get their opinion. Though I'm very nervous about doing so because I don't know if I'm living up to my standards writing from the male POV. Yes, perhaps I will send it in. The more nervous I am, the more it says I need to get it critiqued.

3. Don't forget I'll be interviewing M. Pepper Langlinais on Monday. She has a gift for all my awesome readers. Please join us!

4. We're having a garage sale with some friends today. We brought over a load of stuff to sell to their house and priced them. Then one friend dared to ask if we'd be selling any books. (Because everyone thinks our house has too many books! HA!) My husband and I looked at each other and laughed. Sorry, we're never selling any of our books.

5. Yesterday I took my son to McDonalds for the first time. The first time I've been in one in decades. (I kid you not!) I decided to go there because it's the only place in town with an indoor AIR-CONDITIONED playground. Not much of a playground, and it was more for older kids, but the boy had fun. He got nuggets, ice cream, and playtime in a nice cool place. We did spend an equal amount of time at the library before we went, so I think that makes up for me taking him there!

6. My husband, son, and I had a fun Fourth of July. We took the boy to his first parade. At first, he was put off by the crowd and wanted to go home. Yet the moment he got his first piece of candy, he was hooked! He loved the marching bands most of all. We all then napped, spent two hours at the pool, and met with friends in the evening for ice cream. Yum!

  1. Ick, sorry about the no A/C. That sucks. Do you have a Chick-Fil-A near you? They all have indoor playgrounds, I think. You know, for next time. Hope that won't be for a long time.

    1. We have a Chick-Fil-A in our mall food court. So no indoor playground. I think the nearest restaurant is nearly an hour away. I'd rather have Chick-Fil-A over McDonalds any day, though!

    1. I've been trying to figure out how people survived without AC myself! Plus, those pioneers wore lots more clothing than we do. Crazy!

Thanks! We got a little relief tonight with a cool breeze after the rain.

  3. A week without AC in this heat? Ugh. I'd have to go to a hotel because I can't sleep when it's hot.
It's been years since I went to a McDonald's as well. I just don't do fast food.

    1. I would love to go to a hotel, but that's more money that we don't have. It's going to cost an arm and a leg to fix the heat pump unit. I'm not a fast food fan either, but the heat just broke me down.

  4. I remember the week in 2005, after hurricane Francine, when we were without electric. There was no sleeping. Much less writing.

  6. Yuck! Sorry to hear about the AC. My sister works at the library, and lots of people AC go there to kill some time. Do you have a local library you can go chill in? Just a suggestion..

I wish I didn't know all three of the McDonald's in my area as intimately as I do, but somehow, we always wind up hungry with zero time and nothing else is open! My new favorite treat is the Chocolate Chip Frappe. Of course, with the amount of calories in it, I might as well drink a Big Mac! LOL

Hope all goes back to normal soon, try and stay cool best you can. xo HUGS.

    1. Thanks you! We go to the library a lot. The librarians at our little local branch know my son. They call him "the clever one" because he reads the letters all along the reserved section each time we go there. I tell him it's very good to make friends with librarians because then you'll always have books! :)

    1. Thanks! No AC yet. Hopefully by the end of the week. The day of the garage sale was hot, but it was a success. People come out for a good sale!

  8. No AC? It's been over 100 degrees in Iowa, so I reckon that would be awful. I hope it gets fixed soon!! I haven't been to a McDonald's in that long too. Your little one is so cute and I'm glad that you had a good 4th with your family!

Go ahead with your male POV, I'm a girl and I'm doing it. :) I just might have a guy read it at some point to see if it is accurate. It's a fun challenge. :)

    1. It's been over 100 for the entire week. Icky! We had a little relief tonight with a cool breeze following the rain.

It is a fun challenge working with the male POV. There's a guy in my critique group, so I'm curious as to what he'll say.

    1. Of course he takes after his mom. ;) Though I always thought I looked a little boyish, so it works better for him!

  10. Wow, I don't know what we would have done w/o our ac, this week (104 yesterday!), and it was so hot still in our old house, that i couldn't really do much writing yesterday, either.

Hope you get it fixed and you're back at it soon!

  12. I'm pretty sure the library trip cancels out visiting Micky D's. It's, like, a rule somewhere. And I sincerely hope you get AC at home STAT!!!!!

    1. Thanks! The garage sale was a success. We made enough money to cover eating out in air-conditioned places all week and our new fans.
