Of Gods and Sorrow unleashed upon the world!

Stopping the undead will seem like child's play when the Cult of Ammut comes calling.

Even after losing most of her adopted family, Erin Driscol continues to console clients at Putzkammer & Sons Funeral Home. Keeping the funeral business working smoothly is no longer the walk in the graveyard it used to be. Grieving demons are fighting in the halls. Eyeballs are showing up in teapots. And a so-called psychic and member of the Cult of Ammut claims Erin's boss Cort is a god. All Erin wants is a friend to lean on and a sense of normalcy. But as the cult kills people and repeatedly attacks the funeral home, she must stand strong or lose Cort to the Lake of Fire.

I'm so excited it's finally here. It's been a long time coming, but in my totally unbiased authorly opinion, I think the wait is worth it. And just in case you don't remember what happened in Of Blood and Sorrow or you haven't read it yet, it's FREE for the next five days! And for all Kindle Unlimited readers, both books are available to read.

Join me later this week for the cover reveal of the final book in this amazing trilogy, Of Death and Sorrow!

I'm very excited to finally mark on the calendar a definite release date for my second book in my dark urban fantasy trilogy. I let it sit a while and received a ton of feedback from my awesome critique partners and beta readers. Revising and editing was tough, but that's a good thing. It means I made difficult choices and polished it to be the best story it can be.

I'll be releasing it exclusively on Amazon, and I'm in the process of moving Of Blood and Sorrow (Book #1) on there too. Soon they both will be available to read for free with Kindle Unlimited.

It's been three years since I released the first book. I had intended for it to be a stand-alone, but there was more of Erin's story to be told. And I think this second book is even better than the first!

Reviews:
"Rains just might make me a fan of paranormal urban fantasy – as long as she's the one writing it... Plenty of humor, plenty of action, plenty of romance, and plenty of F-bombs—Of Blood and Sorrow ends with a satisfying finish. Sure, there's a lot of blood and sorrow leading up to it, but what do you expect?" - 5 stars from H.G. Estok

"Of Blood and Sorrow is an interesting twist on some of paranormal's favorite characters. It constructs an intriguing dynamic and hierarchy of demons and vampires and is a swift-moving read that carries the reader along in its current." - 5 stars from M. Pepper Langlinais

"I am a true fan – great writing – intriguing plot – carefully crafted characters – brilliant!" 5 stars from Yolanda Renee

"Great action. Great emotion! It’s well-written books like this that are luring me into the urban fantasy genre." - 5 stars from Graeme Ing

"It is an easy and engrossing read, and provides an unexpected twist to a story which is rapidly becoming almost mainstream and consequently often predictable." - 4 stars from Elephant's Child

Gabriel (Path of Angels 4) is here!

Blurb:
The end is in sight.

To stop Uriel from freeing Lucifer, Gabriel and his brothers must fall and go to Hell. It is a sacrifice Gabriel is not entirely ready to make. Will he fight alongside his brothers or forge his own path? There is only one choice.

Alexander doesn’t want to help Uriel nor does he trust him, but the angel has promised him a better life. He swore to protect Charlie, and he’ll do whatever it takes. When he meets the archangels and learns the depth of Uriel’s lies, he understands the true meaning of sacrifice. If there’s any hope of stopping Lucifer from being freed, Alexander, Charlie, Zephyr and Lake will have to get to Hell and help Gabriel and his brothers in the fight against Uriel.

The path is finally ending, but the price may be too high.

This book is my favorite in the series.

About the author:
Patricia Josephine never set out to become a writer. In fact, she never considered it an option during high school and college. She was all about art. On a whim, she wrote down a story bouncing in her head. That was the start of it and she hasn't regretted a moment. She writes young adult under the name Patricia Lynne.

Patricia lives with her husband in Michigan, hopes one day to have what will resemble a small petting zoo, has a fondness for dying her hair the colors of the rainbow, and an obsession with Doctor Who.

Selective Mutism - By Patricia Josephine

When I was writing book four in the series, I knew right off that Charlie wouldn’t speak. She can speak, but chooses not to because of an event in her past. It was a slow evolution to being mute too. Little by little, she said less and less until by the time Alexander meets her, she barely speaks. (When she was in school, she would if called upon, but she never went out of her way to talk.)

In the first draft, she did have one line, but then I cut it. After getting beta notes and editor notes, I ended up having her speak again when I completely rewrote chapter four. I thought it would add a little weight to the scene. If she was saying that then it was important.

What causes Charlie not to speak isn’t shown in the story because Alexander accepts it as part of who she is. He’s spent his whole life being judge, so he vowed never to judge her when she offered friendship so freely. I also didn’t want to make it a big deal, like it was something to pity her for. Charlie doesn’t speak, but she knows how to be heard.

Review for Impure Bargains

Blurb:
Desiderus has served Ba'al faithfully for nearly one hundred years. When Haven Rowe put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger, her fierce nature stirred emotions he hadn't felt since before Ba'al claimed him. With his sight set on consuming her body and soul, he'll use every deceptive idea at his disposal to make sure she belongs to him.

When Haven walked in on a demon stealing her brother, Jeremy, her entire world unraveled. Born to a family of magic users, yet unable to use magic of her own, Haven will do anything to get her brother back from the depths of hell, even if it means she has to bargain her soul.

With the help of a witch, Haven seeks out loopholes to the soul bargains that have been made. She either finds a way out for her and Jeremy, or they both might be lost forever. What she doesn't count on is the betrayal of her own body and the insurmountable attraction she has for the demon she's trying to escape.

My review:
All Haven has left in this world is her brother, and when a demon steals him, she'll stop at nothing to get him back. Having magic in her blood, she summons the demon and offers a deal for her brother's life. Haven thinks she's being smart, but her own body betrays her when the gorgeous demon, Desiderus sets his sights upon her. While she tries to find a loophole in the deal, the sizzling attraction shows her she realizes that she has something more to fear than just losing her soul.

Impure Bargains is the first in this paranormal erotica series and it starts off the series with a bang. In more ways than one! Haven is supernatural hunter that kicks butt. She's smart, strong, and sexy. I love heroines like her. Desiderus is everything she loathes and yet incredibly hot. A few of their scenes had me fanning myself. He's loyal to his lord as she is to her family, and I'm eager to find out just what they can be to each other.

What impressed me most about the story is the worldbuilding. It's contemporary, but not a world as we know it. There are several magic users. So many that some get addicted to it and have to be rehabilitated. Haven works for DAIS which is an organization that hunts down supernatural creatures to study them. (I think there's something sinister about DAIS no matter Haven's trust of it!) There's a fanatical cult against magic that lives underground. So many delectable details in this world that all weave together wonderfully.

This book hooked me with its fascinating world and fiery tension. I can't wait to read more from Decadent Kane.

Impure Bargains will be released in print only on July 27th!

One Good Catch
A Maguire's Corner novel

Ignoring a recent trauma that is affecting her everyday life, ER Doctor Kate Maguire engages in some high risk activities, but putting herself in these dangerous situations isn’t enough to feed her edginess. She needs something more. When her brother’s high school best friend comes back to town, it’s her chance for a ‘no strings attached’ fling with the man who still headlines in all her best dreams.

Rhys MacGrath’s days of one-night-stands are long over. The pro-football player might be side-lined at rehab for a shoulder injury, but that doesn’t mean he can’t admire and desire the all-grown-up, so-damn-hot, version of the tomboy he once knew. His sudden interest in Kate might be aggravating his best friend, who doesn’t approve, but it’s her indifference that’s driving Rhys crazy.

Everything heats up when Kate’s nosy nature sets her in the line of fire of an arsonist forcing them to deal with more than just the sparks igniting between them.

About the author: Heather M. Gardner's love of books began on the hand-woven rugs of her small town library where her mother worked. There she had a never-ending supply of stories to read at her fingertips. As a teen, her favorite genres to curl up with were romance and mysteries. When she started to create her own stories, they were the perfect fit.

Heather resides in New York with her best friend who is also her husband, plus her talented and handsome son. She is currently owned by four stray cats. Heather's a full-time mom, works part-time from home, a chocolate enthusiast, coffee junkie, cat addict, book hoarder and fluent in sarcasm.

Excerpt:
Kate crossed her arms. “I’m not complicated.”

“Oh yes, you are. Incredibly complicated. And off limits.”

“Look, it was just a kiss. If you can’t handle a little first base, it’s your problem, not mine.”

Rhys stopped in front of her, shaking his head. “What?”

“I’m not some kid anymore, Rhys. I can kiss whomever I want. And I do. If you want to continue living by my brother’s rules, then I suggest you head back to the bar.”

“I guess I have more respect for Steve than to try and feel up his sister after being back in town for less than a day.”

“That’s fine. Whatever helps you sleep at night.”

“Fine. I’ll sleep just fine.”

“Then, goodnight.”

“Goodnight,” he said.

Rhys reached for her, his fingers tangling in her hair. He pulled her in to kiss her again. Kate enjoyed this kiss even more than the first one. It was full of his exasperation, plus his inevitable surrender, making it incredibly hot. Her victory was intoxicating.

Unveiling the cover for Of Blood and Sorrow

She feeds on sorrow.
They want to consume her.

Erin Driscol works the perfect job consoling fellow demons by feeding off their grief at Putzkammer & Sons Funeral Home.

When fledgling vampire Nicolas Reese comes to Erin for help, she learns the truth behind the legends and hides him from his sire and the vampire hunters who seek him. But when the Putzkammers begin to die one by one, Erin is caught between her act of kindness and the need to save her adopted family. Only by facing her own personal demons can she stop the slaughter and still rescue Nicolas from his dark fate.

Isn't that cover incredible? I LOVE it. It fits the book perfectly. I still get all giddy when I look at it.

I haven't set a release date yet for OF BLOOD AND SORROW, but I'm hoping late winter. I've worked a long time on the revisions, and the story is shining. I'm so excited to share it with you.

A big thank you to Erin Dameron-Hill, the graphic artist who designed the cover. I will hire her again the next time I publish a book, and I highly recommend her to everyone.

Wicked Wednesday - Of Blood and Sorrow

Wicked Wednesday will be on hiatus over April. Not only will the A to Z Challenge be happening which I'll be participating with a group on Untethered Realms, I have my mother visiting for a week, and my husband's and son's birthdays. Lots going on. I'm giving myself a little break and easing off on blogging.

As many of you know, I've been working on revisions all this year. One of my manuscripts is a paranormal romance called OF BLOOD AND SORROW (formerly known as "Sorrow Phage"). I hope to get this polished to query before the end of this school semester. I'm going to tease you with my query blurb.

Erin Driscol works the perfect job consoling fellow demons by feeding off their grief at Putzkammer & Sons Funeral Home.

When fledgling vampire Nicolas Reese wakes in the mortuary, Erin hastily sets him loose on the city before she regains enough sense to call a hunter. Vampires are vile, unnatural creatures, or so she thinks. Nicolas returns to her for help, and she learns the truth behind the legends. Breaking all the rules, Erin hides him from his sire and vampire hunters. But when the Putzkammers begin to die off one by one, she must find a way to save the family that loves her. While every demon desperately searches for a way to survive whatever horror is slaughtering them in the night, Erin faces her greatest fear to rescue Nicolas from his dark fate.

Would this blurb snag your attention?

Friday Five for February 7, 2014

1. Earlier this week, I checked my sales on Amazon and discovered there were over 1000 downloads of THE MARQUIS in less than 24 hours. I was shocked and ecstatic! It was #1 on the Demons & Devils best seller list and #9 on Paranormal & Urban. It was also #274 in the Free Amazon Store. I have no idea what promoted the rush of downloads. I haven't done anything new with marketing. It's just one of those weird and wonderfully unexpected moments.

2. I haven't gotten a chance this week to start on my revisions for WIP #2, my superhero story. I'll get a few hours this morning, but hopefully I'll find time on the weekend, and we won't get any more snow days. Though the groundhog saw his shadow, didn't he?

3. Don't forget there's still time to enter the huge Valentine's Day Giveaway. 21 authors giving away their books. I'm giving away a digital copy of The 13th Floor Complete Collection.

4. My son amazed several people this week with his reading skills. I always love watching people's amazement when they see a 3.5 year old reading. I'm so proud of him. This does not show in the bad mom haircut I gave him this week. Poor kid. He won't let anyone else do it, so it's up to me, and he cringes at the sound of scissors cutting hair. Yes, it is a weird and a bit unnerving sound, but it makes for an uneven cut no matter how much I try to be careful.

5. I finished reading a trilogy by Nora Roberts. The first Roberts books I've ever read. Surprising since I do like romance, but I was a bit intimidated by the number of books she has published. I tell myself that I need to be that prolific, suffer a few moments of immense stress over it, and then tell myself to just get through the revisions of my current WIPs. Worry about writing more later. Working on revisions for two WIPs, yup, that's enough for me right now.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Wicked Wednesday - what do you as readers want?

It feels like it's been a long while since we've had a Wicked Wednesday post, hasn't it? September was a busy month, and October is going to be even busier with The 13th Floor Collection blog tour. November and December will be a break time except for a few special events. I need to get working on what comes next now that my series is done.

I want to revise and query one of my unpublished novels. I considered a sci-fi or dystopian, but I don't think I'm quite ready to delve back into those yet. My focus is still on the paranormal romances. I have three options I'm considering. I'd appreciate your opinion. What catches your interest as a reader?

1) WITCH'S FIRST RULE. This is the first book in a completed trilogy. Before my son was born, I queried this book, and it got some interest, but eventually, everyone passed on it. I realized I was marketing it all wrong. I also did some major rewrites. The protagonist is a witch and professional marriage therapist named Magena Silver. She uses love potions to reignite the passion in broken marriages and boost her success rating. Magena has been with me for several years. Every time I take a break from her story, I eventually find myself coming back to her. Magena is strong, opinionated, and in charge of her life. She doesn't like it when I ignore her.
Overall story: A powerful witch demands Magena reverse the effects of a love potion on two of her clients. She must create an antidote or lose her life.
Romantic plot: Nathan is an empath sent to watch over Magena as she tries to create the antidote. He's the only man that has ever been able to get past her emotionally cool facade.

2) SUPER FAMOUS. This was my NaNoWriMo book from last year. It's a superhero romance. I thought it was a bit silly at the time I was writing it, but I've recently read it again, and I liked it a lot. It would need a lot of revising, but it could work. Oakley a.k.a. The Silver Skipper is the leader of a group of superheroes. They're on the rise to international fame. Unfortunately this draws the attention of some scary super villains. With super crime increasing, the government is cracking down on all people with superpowers including the heroes. The heroes are forbidden to use their powers lest they become criminals too.
Overall story: Oakley and her team risk their freedom and lives to save the innocent as the villains kidnap children with superpowers.
Romantic plot: Oakley is the ultimate superhero and never lets her guard down, but Benniton sees her more than just as The Silver Skipper.

3) SORROW PHAGE. (That's only the working title.) This is a paranormal romance where the protagonist works at a supernatural funeral home. Hey, paranormal beings can die too. Erinys is a demon that feeds on people's sorrow. See, it's handy she works at a funeral home! A new and gorgeous vampire wakes up in the mortuary, and she finds herself tangled up in a whole load of trouble.
Overall story: Supernatural drug war reveals itself as something much more horrifying, and Erinys is caught in the middle of it.
Romantic plot: Erinys helps a new vampire named Nicholas and starts to fall for him even when he brings death to her door.

If only I could write better taglines! So what do you think? What catches your attention?

Halo of the Nephilim blog tour - guest post on writing and a giveaway

DINA RAE ON WRITING

The writing process is like life - parts are easy, difficult, filled with emotion, or just plain hard work.  It's also an addiction.  Once you find out that you can write a book, you also find out that you can write another book.

I've only been an author for one and half years.  I really don't have much to say on this topic.  But I will say this - when I am not writing, I feel like I am missing something, almost empty.  This is something that I hope to do forever.  I also write my own blog (http://dinaraeswritestuff.blogspot.com).  I love reviewing, interviewing, or just plain ol' writing about things that I am interested in.  I get to write something short and without it being a project.

I also believe that reading has to be a big part of the writing process.  Before becoming an author, I'd read a book and love/like/hate it without knowing why.  Now, that I am an author, I can articulate what made a book great or not so great.  These kinds of critiques are like gleaning the dos and don'ts of the craft.

Title:  Halo Of The Nephilim
Author:  Dina Rae
Genre: Paranormal Fiction/Horror
Series:  Follows Halo of the Damned
Number of Pages: 244
Publisher: Eternal Press
Formats available: E-book

Can a fallen angel, his band of broken souls, and nephilim children change the world?

Armaros the Cursed, Satan’s favorite of the Fallen, falls once again after breaking the rules.  Fearing an eternity of punishment, he desperately attempts to save himself by sending a bird to his island.  The SOS message is received by his beloved congregation.  Can these loyal worshipers rescue him from the pit?

Halo of the Nephilim is the sequel to Halo of the Damned.  The story begins with Armaros’ arrest. Declared dead, his only known surviving daughter, Joanna Easterhouse, proves her relation and inherits everything.  She catapults her career from an entry-level advertising assistant to the head of Armaros’ advertising empire.  She should be on top of the world, but knows everything good must come to an end.

Joanna’s sister, Kim Easterhouse, marries Sean Slattery.  Joanna generously includes them as key players in her advertising chain.  They, too, have much to smile about, but a string of events leads them back to old family secrets.

Wickedness looms over the Easterhouse family once more, forcing them into an unlikely showdown filled with page-turning excitement.  Like Halo of the Damned, Halo of the Nephilim is filled with conspiracy and angel lore taken directly from scripture and other ancient writings.  More mind control themes top off this tale of doom.  Dina Rae delivers the darkness in the most entertaining light.

Author Bio:
Dina Rae is a new author that is here to stay. As a former teacher, she brings an academic element to her work. Her research on the Yezidi religion and love of art inspired her story telling for Halo of the Damned. Her second novel, The Last Degree, is a fictionalized account of the Freemason's role in the New World Order. Dina's grandfather was the Most Worshipful of his lodge. The subject has always held a personal interest. Her latest novel, Bad Juju, is about an old Haitian bokor who mentors two teens in the dark arts. A unique blend of horror, romance, and literary fiction meant for adults and mature teens.

Dina lives with her husband, two daughters, and two dogs outside of Chicago. She is an avid reader, tennis player, movie buff, and self-proclaimed expert on conspiracy theories. She has appeared in several literary blogs, newspapers, e-zines, and radio shows as a guest.

Day 3 of The Marquis blog tour

I'm over at my other  fabulous CP's blog today,
She has an awesome weekly series on mythological creatures. In honor of her love of beings of lore, I wrote a post on the central ones in The Marquis: demons.

Today's tidbit: There are several BIG mythological beings in the 13th Floor series such as giants, dragons, and Zeus.
