Friday Five for February 20, 2015

1. Most of my week was lost to several snow days in a row. I didn't get any writing done nor did I get a jump on my March tour posts. I was lucky I could remember what day it was! I know we don't have weather as bad as it is on the east coast, but I am officially done with winter. I just hope it's done with us!

2. My Geeky Dice & Debauchery Tour is still rocking. January's giveaways got the biggest number of entries I've ever had, and this month's Zombie Dice giveaway is doing darn good too. That's right! If you haven't heard yet, you can not only win a unique Christine Rains die, but the cool game of Zombie Dice as well.

3. I finished my sci-fi horror short story for the next Untethered Realms anthology on Sunday. It came out a little longer than I expected. My characters got chatty on me! It will be edited down to tighten the tension, and hopefully the end will come as a surprise.

4. My local critique group meets tomorrow. I submitted my weird little Easter story this month. I'm curious to know whether I should go lighter/sillier or darker with it. It's a strange mix of both right now. I hope the weather cooperates and I can make it to the library!

5. Don't forget Untethered Realms' monthly #SpecFicChat today starting at 12:00 p.m. EST. This month's topic: What makes #fantasy believable? Use #SpecFicChat to join the conversation any time. The chat is ongoing.

  1. Dang, don't have a twitter account. I'm missing out.

Seems like you are on a good writing path Christine. Keep it up.

  2. I'm pretty much done with winter, too. It's the first time I've come close to really supporting my significant other's plans to move south. =)

Love the U.R. chat topic. Wish I could be there.

  3. We've gotten quite a bit of snow this week, our first taste of winter weather (9" of snow). Now they're calling for more snow Saturday, so it looks like another snow day from work for me. I don't mind too much, but I'm getting behind in what needs to be done.

I'm looking forward to the spec fic chat today.

  4. I have to try and remember the chat. It's fitting into my AtoZ theme.
    I'm done with winter too.

  5. Winter has arrived even in Georgia. The kids have been out of school three days this week.

Hope you have a good weekend. Stay warm!

  7. Dolorah, thank you!

MJ, I believe this would be one of those times where I would too!

Cherie, here comes more snow! Hope you're getting time to be more productive.

Susan, I'm curious as to what your theme will be!

Sherry, thanks and you take care too!

Decadent, thanks! I don't mind snow but this far south, the town doesn't have the budget to handle it properly.

  8. You were wise to come up with so many wonderful give aways! Snow days have slowed me down too. We've had four this week and one two hour delay. My kids are all older, but still- if there is a human to talk to, I'm gonna chatter instead of work!

Thanks so much for the wonderful review. Made my day!!!

  9. Wow! Way to go with your giveaway numbers!
And snow . . . it's so weird for those of us in Washington state - we haven't had any and everyone else is experiencing snowmageddon - I'm so sorry. I hope you get spring soon!

Have fun with your writing group!

  12. You're still touring in March? This is epic! Never mind the snow days, you've done some great work with your story submissions. We got another spattering of snow the last couple of days. Not unusual to have a white Easter in Scotland!

  13. I hate winter so much. Every winter, I'm so tempted by my aunt's repeated invitation to move to Sarasota to be near her and my surviving grandparents. And to think I used to want to live on the Aleutian Islands and even moved one of my characters there, before moving her into another time and place.
