The Insecure Writer's Support Group - February 2013

The Insecure Writer's Support Group (IWSG) is the brilliant idea of Alex J. Cavanaugh. The purpose of the group is to share doubts and insecurities and to encourage one another. Please visit the other participants and share your support. A kind word goes a long way.

I've read a lot of magnificent stories about adversity and perseverance this week. It was what I had planned on writing about this month, but I'm going to go for something a little different. We have those big victories and those are great moments. Yet there are those little warm and fuzzy moments that help us too.

I'm going to share some of my warm and fuzzy writer moments with you:

A silly comment by one of your critique partners that makes you laugh out loud.

A good review from a reader who randomly came across your book.

Finishing the final draft of revisions and eating those M&Ms you've been saving for that moment.

A stranger tweets how much they're in love with your book covers.

Your beta reader says you've surprised them yet again.

An encouraging comment from a blog follower who says just the right thing at just the right time.

What are some of your warm and fuzzy writer moments?

  1. You mean I was supposed to save the M&M's until after I finished the final revisions??

Thanks for the postive spin. It's nice to remember the little things

  2. Yeah, I'm with Jenn on the M&M's. I kind of ate those already...

And I also agree with her on the positive spin. It is great to remember the little things.

  3. This post has made me really happy. Sometimes it's hard to focus on those small positives, but they really are the best and keep us striving to be even better!

  4. You just put a smile on my face :) Why do we forget these wonderful, little moments so easily?

  6. For now (unpublished, yet) I'm happy when the other participants in NaHaiWriMo like and comment my poems.

I'm happy for the nice comments I've received since starting to write in English on my blog.

I'm happy when I finish what I've started - this week two flash fiction pieces.

I'm happy that I've learn a little discipline and about book covers - you guys are incredible sources of info.

I'm a beginner so, these "little moments" can't just pass by without I notice and celebrate them.

And now after reading and commenting your post, I just have to write one on my own.

Have a nice day, filled with joy and inspiration!

  7. I like the moment when I read back through something and I laugh at a joke that I'd forgotten about.

  8. Glad you have those fussy moments, still looking for one but not giving up.

  9. The silly comment is one of mine too. I love those, they make my day.

  10. Things like that are what keep me going. In fact, I've learned not to open a text or email from my favorite critter if there's beverage in my mouth. I'll invariably be cleaning it off my screen. LOL Great post!

  11. The M&Ms are my favorite! :) You are so right though, sometimes the littlest thing can be such a thrill and make your day to read.

  12. An unexpected 'I love you', out of the blue, from someone I haven't heard from in a long time.

  13. All of those are such lovely occurences. I had a great review that made me warm and fuzzy. And you are so right about the CP's comments. Angela Brown has made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion.

  14. M&M just for after? Oh man, I must be using my chocolate therapy all wrong.

  15. Love the positive spin! Warm fuzzies ... Oh, when a CP gets excited about what you're working on.

  16. Loving all the warm-and-fuzzies you listed! Many of these are things I appreciate in my own life, too. They never fail to help brighten up my day!

  17. Love these! I'd add: You hear people discussing your characters when you enter the room. They're talking about your book! Squee!

  18. Thank you, everyone! I love hearing your warm, fuzzy moments. And, okay, maybe the M&Ms got opened before I was done the revisions, but I swear, the majority of them were still there to reward me!

  19. If I post a little flash fiction that I'm not completely satisfied with, or know I didn't spend as much time on it as I should, but someone still says they really like it. Makes things worth the effort then.

    Great post

  20. Lovely fuzzy moments :) Good balance for those rejection days.

  21. I agree with all of those. Comments from strangers can be very meaningful. Can't they? A kind word at the right time is like... I was going to say kryptonite, but I guess it's actually the opposite. Right?

  22. There's nothing quite like emails from readers. Love them.

  23. I'd say those are some really good ones!

  24. Those are great ones! I'd also like to add one for you:

I honestly can't wait for Dragonslayer! I'm captivated by the 13th floor and can't wait to hear about the rest of the residents! :) Seriously, I marked the date.

  25. Aw, you hit the nail on the head for me Christine. Those are all brilliant. :)
