Review for The Fall Girl

Blurb:
In the news business, owning the headlines comes with a deadly cost.

JJ Cavendish thought she'd escaped her dark past. After publishing her tell-all memoir, she's ready to settle down with Claire and devote her attention to running a scrappy online news venture. But when her new business partner exploits JJ's notoriety to keep the company afloat, avoiding the limelight becomes impossible.

As JJ keeps hungry movie producers at bay, she fields an intriguing offer from an old enemy that could help her expose a cyber bully, stop a string of suicides, and get her company the scoop it needs. To bring the story to light, JJ and her team must brave the darkest corners of the web and hope her own name doesn't make the headlines in the process.

My review:
It has been a bumpy ride, but JJ Cavendish is right where she wants to be. She's about to marry the love of her life, has a thrilling career, and a family that she adores. But it's all shattered when her new company teeters on the edge and someone from her past comes out of the shadows. JJ's business partner weaves secrets trying to save their business, but JJ is trapped in the worst of it. If they manage to pull it off, they could save not only their company, but people's lives as well. Yet is it all worth it if JJ loses the woman and the family she loves?

Another amazing novel from T.B. Markinson. Fantastic intrigue with a mystery hanging over JJ's head. I loved that I didn't know who to trust. It was wonderfully tangled and could have gone so many ways, but it all came together perfectly at the end. My favorite thing about Markinson's writing is her extraordinary characterization. Each character is complex with many layers. I loved seeing JJ's professional drive and how she is in the quiet family moments. I'm in awe of Claire's dedication to JJ and her family, her immense strength even when everything is coming down around them. Cora, JJ's business partner, can be ruthless in business, but underneath it all, she has a good heart.

I also liked the way Markinson tackled the issue of cyber bullying. It's a serious problem in our modern age. While the cyber bully didn't actually kill anyone with their own hands, they still ruined lives. More than just the lives of the poor teens that committed suicide. There were the friends and families too.

Disposal Release Blog Tour

The Lazy Housewife on Garage Grunge

In my home, there are several dumping grounds: a junk drawer or two, the kids' closets, my dining room, and the garage. Junk and stuff is so hard to keep up with. I don't want to just throw it away, but I don't have time to put it away properly, so I'll just put it here for a while till I can get to it... Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Well, this post is focused on the garage. It's a different kind of clutter. It's mostly filled with car stuff, yard stuff, miscellaneous machinery and tools, and toys/sporting goods. So here are my suggestions on having a clean garage:

  • The key to having a clean garage is a timely PURGE. We try to get to it twice a year, as the seasons change between warm and cold. Every year more toys are donated or dumped as my kids get older. It only makes sense.
  • The Fall brings lots of leaves and usually half a tree's worth ends up blowing into our garage. A BLOWER is a great tool for cleaning them out.
  • I love organization. Most people have shelving units, tool racks, and bins for toys and shoes in their garage, but my hubs went a step above and built HIGH SHELVES over the garage doors for off-season storage. (We recently did a major purge as we are moving soon, that's why they look empty)
  • HOOKS are also great for hoisting ladders, bikes and other stuff that's only used for part of the year, up and out of the way.

  • Lastly, Christine asked about oil stains... I had to ask the hubs about that, the garage is his turf after all... He said de-greasers are good, but POWDER LAUNDRY DETERGENT and a scrub brush work pretty well too. For fresh spills, absorb as much as possible before cleaning.
  • A fresh coat of PAINT is also a nice touch for sprucing up banged up walls and doors--like where our garbage cans sit.

Thanks so much for having me here and helping me shout out my new release, Christine.
Hope this was helpful!

The Snowman Blog Tour & #Giveaway - guest post by Yolanda Renee

I'm excited to host the talented Yolanda Renee on my blog today. I love her books, and she helped me when I had a million questions about living in Alaska. It's where her mysteries are set too!

  1. Setting: How do you bring out the most in your setting; and tension?

Alaska, at least to me is, in itself an exciting setting, but this time my antagonist uses the weather to create his horrific art. The Snowman, Stowy Jenkins, originally from West Virginia, hates Alaska and winter, but he decides to embrace circumstance. I not only describe the snowstorms before, and during his killings, I describe the weather in almost every chapter. With each new blizzard, the tension rises.

I also use real places, street, parks, and clubs. Although a few are fictional. However, when I lived in Alaska, the window of my bedroom looked out over 4th Avenue and this description is quite accurate:

On Fourth Avenue, the busiest street in town, flashing neon signs crackled and whirred in the bitter cold, proclaiming the number of nudes dancing in each risqué establishment. Loud music streamed from the dark interiors of clubs almost in synch with the patrons weaving in and out. Bumper-to-bumper traffic crawled up and down the street as men, eager to blow their wad on booze, drugs, and loose women, searched for a place to park.

    1. Tension - How do you keep it taut throughout the plot?

My goal in The Snowman, was to keep the story moving. Emotions run high, killings happen frequently, and Stowy becomes more and more sadistic as he tries to outdo himself with each murder or as he calls it, artistic expression.

Steven Quaid, newly promoted to detective, is determined and yet stymied by the Snowman’s changing MO (modis oprendi) killing habits. Racism and vengeance are also part of the equation and the ultimate question is, can this killer be caught?

I think it meets the challenge as a page turner. I’m sure the readers will let me know.

Thank you for hosting me for the The Snowman tour.

It takes a true artist to pursue his victims in the art of seduction, and Stowy Jenkins is no exception, especially with blood as his medium.

Stowy Jenkins, aka, Stone, and as Alaskans refer to him, the Snowman, is a true artist. His muse, Gigi, is the ultimate inspiration for his painting. Her rejection inspires him to use a very unusual medium…blood.

While art may be his passion, the taste for blood is his obsession, and multiple murders, the result.

Rookie, Detective Steven Quaid, is no fan of the Snowman’s murderous exhibitions. A twisted and deadly relationship bond the two men and neither knows who will come out of it alive.

    About the Author:

At one time Alaska called to me, and I answered. I learned to sleep under the midnight sun, survive in below zero temperatures, and hike the Mountain Ranges. I've traveled from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez, and the memories are some of my most valued. The wonders, mysteries and incredible beauty that is Alaska has never left me and thus now influence my writing.

Despite my adventurous spirit, I achieved my educational goals, married, and I have two handsome sons. Writing is now my focus, my newest adventure!

Happy Halloween and Silent Whispers is here!

It’s not only the dead who whisper upon the wind.

An ancient totem pole has gone missing, and its pieces are scattered across Alaska. Restoring the seven totem tokens may be the only way to save every shifter in the world.

Kinley Dorn, a geeky architect with a heart of gold and a polar bear shifter, jumps at the opportunity to help her family find the lost pieces. Their idea of “helping” involves staying indoors to research online. Work leads Kinley to sexy lynx shifter Ransom Averill. He coaxes her away from the safety behind her computer and into the path of a rampaging giant. Terrifying as the monster might be, she must brave its mountain because the owl totem is calling to her through silent whispers.

  Buy it on Amazon.

Add to read on Goodreads.

I'm so excited readers finally get to meet Kinley. She's my favorite of the sisters. We're both geeks after all! But I also like Kinley because she's a different sort of heroine. She isn't someone with a fiery personality nor is she a kick butt kinda woman. Her strengths lie in empathy and compassion. Of course, when faced with a giant wanting to squish her, she's going to have to find some way to survive!

I have a treat for one lucky commenter today. Tell me your favorite candy, and I'll randomly pick one lucky winner at the end of the day to win some Totem swag and a surprise.

My favorite candy is a Milky Way. Or a Caramilk. Heath. Coffee Crisp. Crispy Crunch. Okay, picking one isn't easy for me. I might have to go out tomorrow and get some candies on sale!

Speaking of treats, Patricia Lynne has organized a blog hop where everyone gets ebooks!

Look at all these awesome authors giving away books today! Just hop along using the links below and collect your delicious treats.

Review for The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller

Blurb:
In 1960’s London, British Intelligence agent Peter Stoller is next in line to run the Agency—until he falls in love with cab driver, Charles, and his life goes off the road. When Charles is accused of treason, Peter is guilty by association. Peter manages to extract them both, but the seeds of doubt have been planted, putting Peter’s mind and heart at war. Is ignorance truly bliss or merely deadly?

My review:
British Intelligence agent Peter Stoller is at the top of his game. He's next in line to run the Agency but is comfortable with the position he's in. The single ladies at work vie for his affection, but it is a cab driver by the name of Charles who draws Peter's attention. Their relationship progresses swiftly, and when Charles is brought in for possible treason, Peter helps him escape. They run off together, but Peter wonders how well he truly knows Charles. Will following his heart over his head be the death of him?

An incredibly written story of intrigue, love, and betrayal. The one thing that always hooks me is great characterization. This book is rich with it. Peter Stoller is an immensely intelligent and observant man with a strong moral code, and he's also very subtle. Don't expect someone who is in your face or seeking an action-packed adventure. With Peter's narration, the reader is lead through gripping scenes high with tension, where the quiet makes it even more provocative. I wondered with Peter about Charles' loyalties and those of his colleagues and felt my heart twist with each turn in the plot. The whole cast of characters is thick with layers. Two of my favorites being Simeon and Gamby.

I found it difficult to put my ereader down as each chapter beckoned me on to the next. There is a little quirkiness to the style which I thoroughly enjoyed, and it fits a man like Peter. I highly recommend The Fall and Rise of Peter Stoller to everyone, not just the suspense and spy thriller fans.

Ghost of Death Tour - guest post by Chrys Fey

I'm excited to host the wonderful Chrys Fey. I can't wait to read her newest stories! Love those covers. Take it away, Chrys!

Thank you for letting me borrow you blog for the day, Christine!

Have you ever wondered how to tell whether or a ghost or not? No? I’m the only one? Oh well! I guess as a writer who wrote a short story about a ghost, I can get away with this kind of thinking. So here are 7 signs you’re a ghost:

1. No one can see or hear you.
2. You can’t smell anything. Not even a pile of dog poop at your feet.
3. Your hands pass through objects like mist.
4. You can’t cry. Try as you might.
5. When you try to take a breath, your chest doesn’t rise.
6. You feel nothing, No pain. No sensations. Nothing.
7. You’re standing over your dead body.

Title: Ghost of Death
Author: Chrys Fey
Genre: Supernatural/Suspense
Format: eBook Only
Page Count: 41 (short story)
Release Date: April 22nd, 2015
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

Blurb:

Jolie Montgomery, a twenty-one-year-old woman, wakes up in an alley next to her corpse. She has no memories of her murder or the night she died. She didn’t even see the killer’s face before he or she took her life. Wanting justice, Jolie seeks answers in the only way a ghost can...by stalking the lead detective on the case.

Avrianna Heavenborn is determined to find the person responsible for a young woman’s death. She gets closer to the killer’s identity with every clue she uncovers, and Jolie is with her every step of the way.

But if they don’t solve her murder soon, Jolie will be an earth-bound spirit forever.

Excerpt:

With the sound of her mom’s grief wafting up to her, Jolie came to terms with her present state. I’m dead and now my mom knows it. She eyed the door in front of her. She hadn’t yet walked through a door, but if her hand could pass through metal then she knew she could move
through wood.
If I have to be a ghost then I’ll be a damn good one. All across the afterlife I’ll be known as the Ghost of Death! And I’m going to start by walking through this damn door!
She would’ve taken a deep breath to brace herself if she could have, so she mentally pumped herself up instead. You can do it! Easy-peasy. Nothing to it. And she took a step forward. Solid matter slipped around and through her form. On the other side, a familiar site confronted her: a black and white bed, the bright green shag carpet in the middle of the room, and a white desk.
Stepping up to her desk, Jolie eyed her ancient desktop computer, the one she used before her dad gifted her with a laptop when she announced she was accepted to the local university. Wanting to send out the first ever tweet from the afterlife, she pushed the button to bring the device to life, but her finger poker straight through it. Resigning to her Twitter-less fate, she moved toward the full-length mirror hanging on the wall. She saw nothing. Not even a shimmer in the air hinted at her presence.
            Being a ghost sucks!
