Teaser Tuesday with The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin is another of those great YA books that had a lot of hype. With the last two big YA titles I've read, one has been a hit and the other a miss. So here's hoping that this one will leave me in awe as it has so many other readers.
Here's your teaser:
The dog needed a vet. I had no money. My parents weren't animal people. I'd stolen something from a crime scene. (page 87)

    The sentence structure of this excerpt is so different than how I write! Lots of short ones. Very interesting.

    Sounds like the character is in some deep trouble. Stole something from a crime scene? Do her (?) parents know? Sort of sounds like it. Choppy sentences, but I'm betting that's just in this particular section for emphasis? I'm interested in this book after all I've heard about it, too. Hope it's good!
