Teaser Tuesday with Beautiful Disaster

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This is a book I've heard a lot about last year. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire is probably one of the YA favorites of 2012. And for the life of me, I can't see why. I'm sorry. The protagonist is weak and her love interest frightening. I'm making myself read the whole thing, but I'm finding this another YA book that is portrays a relationship that is a horrible model for young people.
Your teaser:
"Tell him that I'll keep my promise. By this time tomorrow, he won't miss me." (page 178)

  1. I read so many glowing reviews about this book last year, so couldn't wait to read it.
kudos to you Christine for making yourself read the whole thing, because to be honest, I'm finding it a bit of a trial to read. :)

  5. Even the teaser tells you it's not a good relationship!

  7. I'm surprised I haven't heard of this book before, since I love YA so much! The cover turns me off (I have a butterfly phobia), and the fact that it has an unhealthy relationship turns me off even more. As much as I love YA, I agree, it's a genre too easily inclined to show relationships like that...yet we're still supposed to root for them for some reason. *head-desk* I think I'll be steering clear of this one!

  11. I did really enjoy this one, but it mainly had to do with the mystery surrounding their backstories that made the characters the way they are. I'm looking forward to reading Walking Disaster, which has the story told from Travis' POV to see how the difference is.

  12. There's nothing more frustrating than a horrible relationship portrayed as okay!

  14. I haven't read this one, but I can't stand weak heroines or ones who have no real goal except getting the guy. I don't understand the appeal. Yet, look at Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey. They're bestsellers. Yuck.
Keep writing strong heroines! I love those. :-)

  17. I haven't learned anything about promoting, since I don't have a book to promote, yet. But I've learned a lot from you and the other busy bloggers. Thank you!

I've read my share of books that I didn't connect with, but like Nick, I quit before the end.
