Re-Introduce Myself Blogfest

This wonderful blogfest gives everyone a chance to re-introduce themselves to our growing community. All you have to do is take a minute and tell everyone something interesting about yourself. This is a blogfest, so please visit the other participants and get to know them. Don't forget to give a big thank you to our marvelous hosts Stephen Tremp, Mark Koopmans, Elise Fallson, and C.M. Brown.

Hello! Please allow me to re-introduce myself. I'll make it short and sweet. My name is Christine Rains and I'm a geek mom. My son shares his bed with Ernie, Brobee, and Cthulhu. We play Candyland like a role-playing game and frequently turn our couch into a pirate ship. I love to write and read. Hopefully I can help nurture those loves in my son as well.

I'm shy and not terribly exciting, but I love getting to know new and old friends alike. Tell me something about yourself, please.

  1. A couch makes an excellent pirate ship! My oldest son pretends his spoons are spaceships. This might have something to do with the fact that he watches Star Trek with me on a regular basis!

  2. Hi Christine .. pirate ship games sound fun - and your son will introduce you to many new people ... as well as us lot! Great to re-know you ... cheers Hilary

  3. Nice to re-meet you! I have to disagree with your point about you being "not terribly exciting." The personality you convey on your blog suggests to me that you are a fun and neat person.

  4. Hi Christine! Great to re-meet you. Geek moms rock btw. (= The kids and I often turn our living room into one giant tent. We move chairs, sofas and use about a half a dozen large blankets to cover most of the room. It's a blast.

  5. Does your ship have crocodiles around it too... and floating pillow islands?

  6. I love the idea of role-playing Candyland, it's so creative.

It's very nice meeting you :)

  9. When I was a kid my three siblings and I would crash our couch in places all around the world and the universe! Thanks for co-hosting Re-Introduce Myself!

  10. What a great idea! I think I'm going to turn MY couch into a pirate ship today!

  11. I never made Pirate ships, but when I was younger my 2 sisters and I were always making camps out of our sofa and cushions. If I have a kid no doubt I'll be doing exactly the same with them. Nice to meet you :)

  12. Not terribly exciting? I beg to differ!
Pirate ship couches...oh those were the days. :)

  13. Hi, Christine,
You're reputation precedes you. I've seen your 13th floor covers around and thing the stories sound interesting, but you know how it is - so much to do and not enough time. The stuff you and your son do sounds like lots of fun to me.

  14. I bet my son would love to turn the couch into a pirate ship!

    Nice to re-meet you. :)

  15. I remember my sons using the sofa as a ship. When we were little, my brother and I used the bed of my dad's pick up truck for our ship.

  16. I wonder if kids today know how much fun it is to play pirate ship on the living room furniture or the art of building forts with several levels. My nephews would rather play video games. Christine you sound like a cool mom.

  17. Nice to meet you (again) Christine! My sister and I used to use our couch as a diving board. We would jump off it onto an old comforter we pretended was a pool, and would lie on the floor flailing around like we were swimming. I can definitely picture my daughter doing the same kind of thing.

  18. Great to re-meet you, Christine.
Sounds like you and your son have tons of fun... sounds exciting to me!
Oh, and you've written some "terribly exciting" stuff that is the talk of BloggyLand...

  19. Cthulhu? Is there any room left for your son?

  21. Hi, Christine,

SO NICE to visit you again. I must admit it has been a while. I just scrolled through your followers, and I was one of your first twenty or so. Good to be back. Sadly our time is so limited and we lose contact with blogger friends so quickly, that is why this is such an AWESOME blogfest.

Me... heck. Editing first novel AGAIN. Querying second novel and trying to work on my current novella. NO time FOR anything, But I keep plugging along. LOL.

I LOVED Candyland as a kid!

  22. Hey! Our sofa "turns" into a pirate ship, too! And a space ship, depending on the day. LOL

  25. Hi. Nice to meetcha. You don't sound at all boring. A geek mom writer who encourages her child to play and have imagination? Sounds great to me! Count me in as your newest groupie.

  26. Hello, Christine. Can be anyone be shy and shameless at the same time? That's me. I don't have children, only minions. Nice to meet you! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Love the pirate ship! We push or two couches together and make a "boat" to read in and watch movies.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That's so fantastic that you're inspiring his imagination. I remember doing all sorts of make-believe like that when I was a kid...oh wait, I did it last week, too. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Likewise to your other readers... I suddenly have an intense desire to run downstairs and turn my sofa into a pirate ship. HOW HAVE I NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE?! So nice to meet you!! : ]

  30. Hey we play pirate ship too. My three year old has a pretty unrealistic view of the world though because he "swims" over to the deserted island (chair) and brings back pretend hamburgers and french fries. If he's ever stranded on an island he's going to be very upset.

    ReplyDelete
  31. HA! I totally wish I'd been exposed to plush Cthulu when my kids were little. My son would have loved him. I love that you're a geek mom.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Who needs a sofa when you can have a pirate ship instead? Avast me hearties, stormy seas ahead!

    Nice to meet you, Christine.

  33. A couch as a pirate ship? Awesome! Lovely to re meet you!

    ReplyDelete
  34. A pirate ship! Mine always used to be a fort. Cool to learn more about you!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sounds like your kids have a great mum to fuel their imagination. We used to walk in between the two couches in our living room on cushion "stones". The floor was hot lava that would kill you if you fell in. But me and my brother pushed each other in all the time!

  36. Hello, everyone! It's nice to meet and re-meet you all. It's awesome to hear so many people played the same games as a child I did and my son plays. We need a giant couch for us all to play. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. The best couches are pirate ships.

    ReplyDelete
  38. My kids loved candyland and there was one card from the game (can't remember now) that used to go on all our car rides.

  39. He shares his bed with Cthulhu? I'm jealous!

Nice to "meet" you again! :)

  44. Great summary Christine:)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sounds like a great life to me... reading, writing and pirate ships? Guess a big percentage of us writers are shy. Include me in that. It's good to meet you!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Shy and not terribly exciting describes 85% of the writing community...myself included!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. You're not alone - I'm shy and not all that exciting too. And I love writing and reading. Nice to re-meet you Christine! :)

    ReplyDelete

I'm Mel, I'm new to your site and it's very nice to meet you although your name sounds super familiar. I may have bumped into you around the blogosphere... or the ship. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. oh man, i need to bring my kids over and board your pirate ship! sounds like we will be throwing pillows for cannons!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm not shy, but I am reserved. I'm not terribly exciting either, but I like to think I lead an exciting life.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sounds like you have lots of fun with your kids, Christine! When mine were young, I would make imaginative creations out of cardboard boxes and set them up in the living room of verandah and we would spend hours playing together.

    ReplyDelete
  53. You sound like a great mom. So fun to play imaginary games with kids. This are the memories that stay with them. "Remember when we . . . ."

    ReplyDelete
  54. You are a great Mom! I bet you make forts too.

    So nice to re-meet you.
