My workspace

I love getting a peek into other writers' lives and seeing where they write. I thought I'd share with you my recently reclaimed office (which still remains a game and storage room too). I like having a neat workspace. I usually have a big cup of water there on the desk as I write. My thesaurus is right beside the keyboard along with a notebook for my current project. The bright colors and frog have absolutely nothing to do with what I'm writing, but it's a cute notebook!

The room is small. It's 6 x 8, but it's a nice calming moss green and right across the hall from the bathroom. The window is to my back as I write. I love to look out the window, and it can get distracting if I'm facing it.

This is the side of the room to my right as I'm sitting in my chair. The walls are covered with invaluable works of art. The artist, my son, of course! There's two old "gaming TVs" on the dresser and some geeky card games. I have the collection of anthologies I have stories in, and in the frame to the right of the lamp there, if you can see it, it's the first dollar I made selling a story. It was a drabble, and I was proud to have made a buck. The dresser is full of stationary, notebooks, manuscripts, games, games, and more games. The closet to the left of me when I sit in the chair is full of boardgames.

  1. That's a lovely little room! I don't have a writing room, unfortunately. Most of my work is done at the dining room table, or on my bed!

    1. I get to sit where the computer is and the computer can only be in one spot in our house. I like the idea of writing in different places though!

  2. That looks very well-organized and clean. Dependent on my mood, my writing area can be spotless, tidy or looking as if an F-5 tornado swept a 10' wide path through it.

If and when I use a thesaurus, I generally opt to use an internet based one as it is quicker for me. My print thesaurus and dictionary are props for the most part.

    1. I made sure to take those photos when it was tidy in there! I also have a gigantic dictionary, but I never use it. Internet based ones are more convenient, but sometimes I find different words in my thesaurus they don't have online.

  5. Doesn't matter the size as long as you feel comfortable and safe in your writing space!

  6. Great space and very organized.
I mostly just move the laptop to wherever I want to write. Normally, the couch.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks! I like to peek in too. It would be interesting to see how the spaces evolve over time. Mine's certainly different now that I have a kid than what it was like before.

    1. Thanks! The printer is just a regular HP one. It's sitting on an old TV stand. Maybe that makes it look gigantic!

  13. Wow! You've got such a tidy place! That's really amazing! I've never met one in person but the writers in movies always seem messy so this image is quite the opposite.
I think that neatness helps you focus and write better.

    1. I'm a tidy writer because I don't use many notes or anything. Neatness does help me focus better. Having something to clean just gives me a reason to procrastinate!

  17. Haha - I write sprawled out on the floor 'cuz I sit at a desk all day for work. Also, pretty much anywhere I can. I do a lot while I'm running in between other life happenings. ;)

    1. Ah, how I wish I could do that too. I don't know how eager I'd be to sit at another desk after spending the whole day behind one as well.

  18. I like your space. Mine is sprawled out on the bedroom floor. My husband works from home, so I don't have the luxury of an office.

    1. Thanks! When my husband works at home, he uses his laptop and sits out in the living room. I'm happy he got it so we don't have to share a computer any more!

  19. I haven't seen my writing space in a while. I'm over-committed and over-stressed. Writing took the hit.

  21. What a nice work area you have there! A room where you can get cosy enough is essential as this helps you come up a good piece to write! Carry on sharing some awesome posts!
