I'm having so much fun over at The Really Real Housewives blog. Love my hosts. Aren't they a fabulous bunch?
Join me for another post about geek parenting on a budget.
My family always comes first. I love spending time with them. Here are a few pictures of things we've done together recently.
Here's my little guy and his buddy walking along a boardwalk in a wetlands preserve not too far from where we live. There are tons of birds nesting in this area including bald eagles and Indiana owls. All this fun and adventure was free!
This is the Louisville Arcade Expo. It's difficult to tell in the picture, but that is a conference center ballroom filled with retro arcade games, pinball machines, and consoles. Children ten and under are free. You can pay one flat fee and play all day long. (Tip: it was less crowded in the morning. Saturday afternoon got packed!)

After the expo, we stopped for dinner at Steak 'n Shake. One of our favorite places to eat out. Kids eat free on the weekends when you dine in. Most meals on the menu are $4, and not only do I love that price, but I like that they don't heap stuff on your plate. You get normal portions, so you aren't stuffing yourself. Thus leaving room for milkshakes!
Hi Christine .. love it that the kids are out on the Board Walk enjoying nature ... listening and seeing the birds, insects, fishy things et al ... bet the Steak N Shake was good after a long day at the arcades ...
ReplyDeleteYou and desserts or in this case milkshakes: enjoy!! .. cheers Hilary
Love the pic of the kids on the boardwalk! Makes me want to go to the state parks and preserves around here now. We did go to the aquarium this weekend then ate outside at a casual restaurant by the water. No milkshakes though!
ReplyDeleteThese look like such fun activities! I could definitely go for a steak and shake, but we don't have those here.
ReplyDeleteI love Steak and shake. Best fries anywhere.
ReplyDeleteWell if the kids can eat free... Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun. Budgeting is important and doing it without losing the fun is great.
ReplyDeleteI want to go to that retro arcade thing. That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do enjoy those Steak N Shake milkshakes. Perhaps a little too much...
That looks like a fun time and sounds like great pricing for food. I'll go check out your other post!
ReplyDeleteI do love Steak n' Shake! Wish we had one near us.
ReplyDeleteBravo, Christine. Looks like you and your family like outdoor walks. So do we. We have camped with our five children for close to 20 years now. Sure wish we knew about this Steak 'n Shake place. That would've helped with the feeding bills. I've enjoyed the blog hop and met many new bloggers that I've connected with online. Thanks again for this opportunity.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone for stopping by! :) Have a happy hump day!
ReplyDeleteYay for Steak 'n Shake. One of my favorite places to eat.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're a great mom!
It's always great to have room for milkshakes. :)
ReplyDeleteBest ever~~ Spending quality time with your family!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWith 5 kids we used to love places where kids eat for free. If you remember The Ground Round, you'd have what they weighed which was also a good deal. Now I'm heading over to the Real Housewives.
When you mentioned you'd be playing classic arcade games over the weekend, I was excited for you. Sounds like SUCH fun!
ReplyDeleteAww, amazing! And I love all the pics! I've never tried Steak 'n Shake... got to add that to my list :)
ReplyDeleteAw, sounds like you've been having lots of fun with your family lately! And...$4 meals?! Wow, that's such a great deal, for sure!
