Friday Five for May 2, 2014

1. Not a terribly productive week writing-wise. I've started on my synopsis for WIP #1. I'm doing my best not to spend as much time on it as I did writing the novel. My goal for this month is to get WIP #1 query ready.

2. The A to Z Challenge is over. I know many of you are still catching up on your sleep! I thoroughly enjoyed participating as a part of a group. Last year, I barely had enough time to respond to comments on my own blog. This year, I visited several new blogs. I would be happy to do the group thing again next year, but I'll wait until my son's in school full-time before I do it myself.

3. I'm going to settle back into a 3 day a week posting schedule. Lots of new releases and reveals coming from many of my writing friends this month. It's going to be an exciting month!

4. Speaking of reveals, have you seen Elizabeth Seckman's cover for Bella's Point? Absolutely gorgeous.

5. And here's some fun reading for the weekend. River Fairchild has released her awesome collection of Death & Chronos flash fiction, Living the Afterlife. Grab your copy for FREE on Smashwords.

Thirty stories filled with laughter and mishaps as a Harley-riding Death and anachronistic Chronos create havoc in Purgatory and on Earth. A host of Immortals join in the misadventures.

Find out what happens when Death teaches War how to bowl. Can Chronos fix his blunder when he loses a year? What is Gaia going to do when she discovers the invisible sheep? Can you win playing poker with Evil?

Step into their world. The Afterlife will never be the same.

  2. Good luck with the synopsis! (Those are always such a pain to write, at least to me, heh.) I agree, the cover for Bella's Point is so lovely, and Living the Afterlife sounds like such a fun collection!

  3. I'll have to get River's book! Those were such fun characters when she was posting excerpts on her blog.
Keeping up with comments during the challenge is the most difficult part...

  4. Synopsis woes be gone! I have never tackled a proper one (just a quick chapter recap for revision purposes), although I hear they're good to do regardless of querying. I MAY tackle one, one day. They sound scary so good luck.

Love the cover and I'm so off to Smashwords right now. :)

  5. I understand what you mean about waiting until the young ones are in school full-time before participating in the next A to Z challenge. I think I'm going to do the same.

Heading over to pick up River's flash fiction now!

  6. Congrats Elizabeth and River! Nice cover art. As for A to Z, I was so busy with the end of semester teaching I do, that I just had time to do my two posts and then delve back into reading student research papers. But the semester is over! And I am starting a new writing project, so yay me.

  7. Thanks so much for the shout out!

I don't blame you for waiting until your son is in school. Mine are all teens and I still find it hard to work around them, so while they are all home this summer, I will scale back a little.

  8. I couldn't participate in A-Z--Kat, my co-host, did a fine job three days a week while trying to do some research on the nuts and bolts of her current WIP. She's hibernating in May. Can't say as I blame her. I read a lot of the entries (couldn't comment) but typing was mostly one handed in the beginning of the month and currently two hands and slow but pain and Doc's orders have kept it to short spurts.

It made me laugh just looking at the questions you posted for River's book. Looks like it would be an interesting read. :-) And yes Elizabeth's cover is pretty.

  11. Elizabeth's cover is really pretty! Yes, I'm trying to catch my breath after the A-Z challenge. It's not the posting that gets you - it's the visiting all the bloggers!

  19. Not sure I understand what you mean about being part of group with regard to a-z? I enjoyed it more this year then last; but am already wondering about next year, as we'll be vacationing during part of it. Good luck on your goal. I'm continuing the a-z throughout the month of May.

  20. I've been totally rubbish at replying to comments on my A-Z posts, but I'm trying to get caught up.
Thanks for the reading tip, I look forward to reading it!
    Have a great weekend!

  21. 3 days a week? Wow. You are a better blogger than I. Good luck on the WIP; I'm hoping mine will be query-ready by this summer. May the 4th be with you!

  22. Rhonda, there are 12 of us in the Untethered Realms group. We each had 2 letters of the alphabet and there were a couple of group posts. We all visited other participants for the group.

  23. Hi human, Christine,

I just love Elizabeth revealing herself. Um, I just love Elizabeth's cover reveal...

And who could resist River's collection of death! :)

Glad to know you are into a posting schedule that you are most comfortable with. Keep going with your WIP. Now that I know what a WIP is :)

As for the A to Z, ahem, the Alphabark Challenge, 2014!, was a nice bit of laidback fun.

    Pawsitive wishes,

Penny, the cordial host of The Alphabark Challenge, 2014! :)
