Darkness Review

Blurb: Seventeen-year-old Carly Lopez suffers from post-traumatic stress, though the “post” part technically doesn’t apply...not when the killer’s still out there.

As the only survivor of the killing spree that left four dead girls in its wake, Carly fails to unearth her buried memories of that day and is consumed with guilt. After a year of silence, the killer's back, and Carly will stop at nothing to stop him.

With each new death, Carly’s reality shatters, propelling her deeper into the darkness where the dead haunt her and where the truth lies. Her only firm grasp of reality is Hunter Jackson, whose mysterious overprotectiveness of Carly forces her to doubt the reason behind her guilt.

But Hunter has a secret.

And when she discovers a horrible truth, Carly questions her involvement in the murders. Was she directly responsible? Did she help the killer? Carly soon learns that finding answers may mean risking more than just her sanity.

My review:
Carly Lopez is the only survivor of a serial killer that murdered four teenage girls. He was never caught, and she can't remember what he looks like. Now he's back, and she's determined to find the killer. Except she can't tell reality from dream sometimes. Her post-traumatic stress has left her questioning even herself. Can she find the truth without ending up in an institution again or getting herself killed?

This YA thriller with a supernatural edge takes the reader on a surreal journey. It's fascinating and frightening at the same time. Carly's post-traumatic stress disorder is captured vividly. Her nightmares, visions, and inability to remember things interfere with her desire to help the police. Carly is determined no matter that her own mind is holding her back.

Amidst the chaos, Hunter is the rock holding Carly together. He's one of those guys every girl crushes on an for good reason. Hunter has his own secrets, and they weave into the strange web that creates this extraordinary tale. A few times I felt lost, but that is merely because Carly feels that too. And when you discover the truth, it is even more fantastical than the illusions.

The Second Sign blog tour - Guest post by Elizabeth Arroyo

Happy Valentine's Day!

Romance lives!!

I love romance novels. I read all of Catherine Coutler regency romances. I delved into Madeline Hunter. Corsets, petticoats, and arranged marriages are just awesome to read. There's conflict, conflict, and more conflict in each and every one of them.

Paranormal romance...also my favorite. Bad-boys in black leather. Come on now, who wouldn't love that? JR Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyon my favorites.

And then there's YA. It holds a different place in my heart. An untainted innocence yet explored. That first crush, that awkward kiss, the special dance. The flirting. Yes, romance in YA is flirting. Ninety percent of romance in YA is written between the lines.

And ladies and gentleman, romance lives. There is still a special place in the heart of teens, yearning for that special event that turns their world upside down...even boys. Here's where I delve into a true story.

My son gave me permission to go ahead and share his special moment.

He actually organized a very special something when he asked his girlfriend out--which means being exclusive.  He had a scavenger hunt and involved all of their friends. It started with one of her girlfriends leading her to the first stop where another friend held a message to give her. Written on the message was a clue, the place of a shared moment between son and girlfriend, and this message led her to another place where another friend waited for her with another message. Until finally, my son waited for her in the last stop with a message of his own.

And loads of people followed on Facebook.

Yes! Romance Lives!

Day 4 of The Alpha blog tour

I can't wait to show you what's in store for today!

Come on over to Kyra Lennon's blog.
I'll be chatting about Stefanie and James,
my Alpha female and her geeky love interest.
Romance where the woman is the aggressive one.

Next I have a guest post on worldbuilding at Elizabeth Arroyo's site.
Find out how I came up with my ideas for the fictional city of Carmine and the building the 13th floor is located.

Today tidbit: The city of Carmine has become a character herself like the 13th Floor. I consider both the city and floor female. The first books in the series will show more of the city while the final two books will be more about the 13th floor.

I'd like to announce the five lucky winners of my 400 Followers Giveaway. Thank you to everyone who entered. You're awesome!
a Rafflecopter giveaway
Congratulations to the winners! Emails have been sent. And if you didn't win this time around. Don't worry! I'll be having another great giveaway tomorrow.
