#IWSG for December 2015

The Insecure Writer's Support Group (IWSG) is the brilliant idea of Alex J. Cavanaugh. The purpose of the group is to share doubts and insecurities and to encourage one another. Please visit the other participants and share your support. A kind word goes a long way.

The awesome co-hosts for this month are Sandra Hoover, Mark Koopmans, Doreen McGettigan, Megan Morgan, and Melodie Campbell!

Thank you to everyone who responded last month to my post. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like I need to write more faster and write more on top of that.

And while I sometimes do hear that nagging voice, I've had a good year. One novel and six novellas published. Plus a handful of short stories! Darn good year.

I want to hear all your happy stories. Please share something good that has happened to you this year in the comments.

Here's to a magnificent 2016 for all of us!

  1. You've had a great year! I, for one, have decided to accept my slow-as-a-tortoise writing career. My small steps are building pretty great things, so that's my happy news... I'm in a good place :-)

  2. I'm determined to get something published in 2016 Christine. You have achieved so much. To actually get so much out into the world, I don't think you need be insecure about writing slowly. Your speed of getting work out into the world puts me to shame :) Congrats on all your accomplishments this year and thank you for your continued support of me since I joined this fantastic group!!! You are a star!!!

  3. Hi Christine - you have done well ... so pleased for you. We all do things in our own time ... and I'm glad I've finally figured out the last piece of my puzzle - now comes the hard work to put it all together ... cheers and you too have a great 2016 ... Hilary

  5. Glad you've had a good year. I feel like I've really worked through my grief and life changes and am at the top of the hill in terms of my moving my life to the next phase.

  6. Woot! You've had a great year! Now you want something good that's happened to me. Well I heard some really good news, but I can't share yet. I know it's mean, but trust me not only is it good, but soooo exciting! I'll give you a hint, it's not writing related.

  7. Seven books is good.

The good thing for me is getting back into writing fiction.

  8. Yeh for you! :)

One thing I'm really proud of this year is that I took a chance, wrote a longer short story and subbed it to a new to me market. The result - it was published in a horror anthology that includes a story by one of my favorite YA authors Mindy McGinnis! :)

  11. My good this year: I've published 8 books (short stories, novellas & novels) and have 2 more coming out this month (novel & short story). On top of that, I changed neurologists and may have a handle on my epilepsy medications. 2015 has been good. Hopefully 2016 is better!

  12. Wow that is a great year! I loved being part of the UR Mayhem anthology this year. And personally I've had a great year filled with lots of unexpected joy, so maybe I just need to focus on that instead of what I didn't accomplish professionally.

  13. What a great year for you, Christine! Congratulations on your accomplishments! I think one of the best parts of 2015 for me is meeting & collaborating with some great new author friends online. Their generosity & willingness to share sources, ideas, and critique is truly heart warming. Here's to a great 2016!

  14. I had a short story published at the beginning of the year. :)

  15. Ome novel and six novillas published. Gosh, that is a damn good year! Way to go!

I published two short stories and received a contract for my first novel. :D

  16. Congratulations on all your success! It sounds like an outstanding year--may 2016 be even better!

  18. Woot! You had an awesome year!

As far as something happy for me, my husband made me an amazing office. It's so much fun. :)

  19. Something good, eh? I got my miracle baby after 8 years. And she's a joy.

  20. Alas, I wrote too slowly this year myself, so perhaps that's a bit of comfort for you. I swear I'll do better next year though. (I promise myself that every year...)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would definitely call that a good year. For me, the good is the fact that I've been writing every single day since July 1. Even in my avid roleplaying days, I don't think I managed to write every single day. Heh.

  22. Good-I had an epiphany last day of NaNo, even though I did not write in NaNo, on a story I have been working on all year. My friends are taking me to Key West for xmas/New Year. I have a place to live for now with a great view. I'm making writing plans for 2016.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

  23. A publisher accepted Peter! That's my major victory for the year, along with my short film premiering at a film festival. Time to be grateful for what we have, and have accomplished. Then we can face 2016 with fresh resolve.

  24. Your year sounds great, Christine. Keep going. My main accomplishment this year? It would probably be a regency romance novella I wrote and posted on wattpad. It was the first romance I ever wrote and it already has over 600 reads, so I feel happy. I'm writing a sequel.

  25. You got a lot done, Christine! Go You!

I got to take a trip up the California coast line. It's so gorgeous! And listening to the surf hit the rocks as you're falling asleep--so therapeutic!

  26. It's hard for me to think of anything good coming from this past year, so I will live vicariously through you. Go, Christine!

  27. I haven't done as well as you did, but I'm going to enjoy December that's for sure. :-)

  28. Something good? I got a job that I only have to work on week a month. The best of both worlds; being unemployed and employed at the same time :)

Writing wise, not so good. Nothing published or completed, but I did write some things. That is progress.

I'm also looking forward to the new year.

  29. You had a great year and I still need to snag your novellas and read them. =) I'm happy with how my year went. I got my novella series published and I worked on more stories. I had plans on getting something ready for publishing at the end of the year, but it didn't happen. Things got away from me, but what else is new?

  30. Congrats on your very productive and fulfilling year of writing. And thank you for asking about good things. So fun to read everyone's responses with good news and thoughts. I signed a contract for my third mystery and it was released in Oct. (I have worked on it off and on since June 2012) My hubby and I co-authored a book on vegetable gardening. It was a joy to share my writing world with him. And I must say we had delightfully delicious produce from our garden this past summer which is quite an accomplishment. Thanks.

  32. Whoa, you've had so many publications this year! Congrats! ~\o/~

I've been pretty down about my art, I must admit, but I did have a nice handful of commissions come my way in 2015, which I'm always grateful for!

  33. You have had an amazing 2015! Here's to an amazing 2016.

  34. This has been a great year. I have a new granddaughter--best news ever! I finished 2 novels, 1 novella, and a short story. One novel is pubbed, the 2nd will be soon. The novella? Not sure yet. And the short story is free on The Roses of Prose blog. Looking forward to next year.

Penny, you're a sweetheart. One of my good things this year is that we adopted two kitties from the animal shelter. Both who have been there quite a long time. Now they have a loving forever home!

Heather, you've had a good year even if you do get down on yourself. :)

    Stephanie, cheers!

Diane, congratulations! My mom says it was her best year when she got two grandsons!

    Patsy, yay! That's wonderful.

  38. Although working full time will cut into my writing time, I got a new job that's has better working conditions than the last. I'm also finally treating and beating an illness that had me heading toward a very poor prognosis as time went on. I won't know for sure for another few weeks, but the chances of a cure are 96-99%. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. You've definitely had an awesome year. I'm a turtle in writing speed, so there's no way I could pump that much out that fast. But I've got several goodies ready to head out during 2016, so I'm happy about that.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Familywise, this has been a very bad year for me. I almost lost my daughter in April and my husband passed away on October 13. Yet somehow I managed to republish 2 old paranormal romances and 6 new M/M novellas. I haven't written a thing these past few weeks, but now I need to get my thoughts in gear and start planning for 2016.

  41. writing faster is the way to keep up with a demanding market, but it can hamper quality... it's a conundrum!! :-(

    ReplyDelete
  42. Melissa, keep battling on!

    Tonja, that's awesome!

Christiane, my sympathies. You amaze me what you've done through such sorrowful times.

EE, that's so true. I would never publish something I didn't think was excellent. I have great CPs that keep me to that too.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I lost two publishers in 2015 but found a new home for my fantasy series with my romance publisher even though they are not romances. Ups and downs.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congratulations! I have my second book coming out in January. 2016 is going to be a good year!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sounds like a great year for accomplishments for you! I've had several short stories published, as well as more accepted for publication next year. That's my positive. :D

    ReplyDelete
  46. Susan, ups and downs, and 2016 is looking great for you!

    Doreen, thank you and congratulations!

    Shannon, that's awesome!

  47. Sounds to me like you have had an awesome year. I am a slow writer, but I figure that is who I am. I do sometimes envy those who sit down and bang out 8000 words at a time, but that isn't me and that is okay. :) Happy writing in 2016!
