Teaser Tuesday with Kiss the Dead

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This is the newest novel in L.K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series. I love the beginning of the series, but after a while, it became hit or miss with me. I like the darker and grittier books where Anita is on Marshal duty rather than the ones she's dealing with her harem. Oh, I particularly like some of the men in her harem, but too much of a good thing is a little too much.
Here's your teaser:
Sometimes when I had nightmares, they got glimpses of it if we were sleeping next to each other. When I was working on a really violent case, some of my lovers started sleeping elsewhere. (page 64)

  2. Laurel K. Hamilton, writes some great books. Have you read any of the series about the fairy kingdom? They are great!

  3. Yeah i officially gave up on Anita Blake a few books ago. Remember when she used to do awesome necromancer stuff? Those were the good times. Now it's just smut. Which is fine, but i have to be in the right mood to read about tons of sex with very little plot

    1. I was tempted to give them up too, but she went back to those dark and gritty Marshall stories. I like when Anita is out with Edward and hunting. This newest book wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I think Anita spent too much time justifying herself and her lifestyle. We don't need it. If a reader has gotten that far into the series, they know why Anita's life is like that!

  4. This one wasn't the best in the series, but thankfully not one that featured Anita's sex life.

  5. I've intended to pick up one of LKH's books for a while now, Christine. My sis-in-law is a big fan, and thinks I'd enjoy them as I'm such a big fan of the Sookie Stackhouse books. Plus, I've been told the mc in my latest stories has a little Anita Blake in her. :-)

  7. Didn't know she had a new book out.... Have to agree... her latest books haven't been as good as the earlier ones.
