Juggling - guest post by Tara Tyler

Happy Monday, folks! This week I'm excited to be a guest blogger at The Really Real Housewives. I love that blog! I'll be doing three posts about geek parenting on a budget. Even if you don't have kids, it's fun geeky stuff!

Today I'm excited to have the fabulous Tara Tyler as my guest. One lucky commenter will win a free ecopy of her newest awesome tale, Jolissa. Take it away, Tara!

Juggling

I cannot juggle. Juggling takes skill, balance, practice, and perseverance - you're going to drop a lot of balls before you get good!

Here's my definition:
juggling - there's something up in the air at all times

And here is my point:
Juggling life is just as difficult.
We all struggle with finding a good balance between family and work and free time. (I heard that chuckle when I said free time!)

But when all the pieces fall into place, there is peace.

The things we want to do the most, we seem to have the least time for! We work to pay bills so we can enjoy time with our families and our free time. If we don't get enough sleep, we are cranky. If we don't work enough, we fall behind on bills. If we don't keep up with our family and chores, the house falls apart. But don't sacrifice your free time to get the other stuff done!

Putting off to tomorrow things I couldn't get done today is NOT procrastination. It's underestimation of time needed.

NEVER FEEL GUILTY FOR ENJOYING YOUR FREE TIME!  We must have our time - our time to do what we enjoy plus sleep re-energizes us so we can go back to work.

And there is the circle of life, a continuous juggling of time management, trying to keep it all balanced.

Inevitably, life throws an extra ball into the mix, so we adjust. It takes a little work, but it's okay to drop the ball sometimes. And make sure you ask for help - you're not alone! Plenty of clowns trying to juggle their own balls.

Thanks for having me over Christine!

Tara's latest publication is Jolissa - An Anti-Princess Story, a novella with an on-going Youtube storybook.

A trouble-making maiden, a clumsy out-of-work squire, a loyal puppy, and a talking goat go on a quest - What could go wrong?

Tara Tyler has had a hand in everything from waitressing to rocket engineering. After moving all over, she now writes and teaches math in Ohio with her three active boys and Coach Husband. Currently, she has two series, Pop Travel (techno-thriller detective capers) and Broken Branch Falls (fantasy adventures). She's a commended blogger, contributed to several anthologies, and to get all these projects in, she economizes her time, aka the Lazy Housewife. Make every day an adventure!

  1. Very clever approach to juggling time. My schedule usually approaches something like this, but lately, work has cut into those other precious eight hours as well.

    I'm working on rectifying that.

  2. Underestimation of time needed - I'm going to remember that. I wonder if my boss would buy it?
And juggling is fun when you learn to do it.

  3. So true about needing sleep and free time in our balance. I'll try to remember that the next time (probably by tomorrow) I try to skimp on those.

  4. Free time is when you get your best ideas, isn't it? I hope so because that's what I keep saying I need more of.

Hurray for Tara. Love the idea of an anti-princess story.

  5. Hi Christine and Tara .. great to see you both - and balancing time is a challenge .. but an essential. My free time is adding to my brain load - but that's all good ... and I'm walking to my classes or town .. or whereever ...

Keep cheerful .. and Spring is almost here - Hilary

  9. My latest IWSG post was about feeling guilty for wasting time. I had a lot of people reply and say it was okay, we need to let time slip by and just relax and binge watch Netflix or whatever. I'm going to attempt to not feel guilty over my free time and use it to recharge like I need.

Love that. I am so bad about over scheduling.

  12. Thanks for stopping by Tara. Indeed people need to stop feeling guilty enjoying some free time. It's not a crime and very necessary for your well being. All work and no play might make you dull, but it can also mess with your health.

  14. Very wise advice from someone so young. I remember years when there seemed to be no time for me-time but I knew it would pass. And it has. I've also learned not to skip sleep.

  15. Like the graph. I see balance and moderation, but it is hit and miss on achieving it. Great post.

  17. Great guest post! I agree, juggling life is incredibly difficult sometimes. Not feeling guilty about that can be even more difficult, though, LOL. If only time weren't so elusive!

  18. Juggling is definitely hard, whether time or actual juggling pins. ;) It's hard not to feel guilty when balls drop, and asking for help is hard, but we need to be easier on ourselves.

  19. I think the statement that we should never feel guilty for enjoying our free time is one I should read every single day! I do feel guilty for doing that. Yesterday I felt guilty for walking on my treadmill when I had an email from a client needing same-day turnaround on something. I got off the treadmill, sent over the assignment, then got three more things he needed by the end of the day. So by sacrificing my ME time, all I did was teach him that he could own my time.

  20. Learning to juggle involves starting with scarves. It takes time and determination to get it right. Timelords make it look easy. :-)

  21. I once had a coworker who was so fast at his job (and had so much free time) that he would go to the janitorial closet and try to teach himself how to juggle. Only took 2 weeks until he mastered it. I hope he puts that on his resume now.

Time management is very important, and it's true, you have to take some time for yourself. Trying to do ANYTHING while you're burned out usually does more harm than good.

  22. Juggling can get tiring. There are always too many things to do. And free time? What's that?

  23. I feel you on the juggling front...sometimes I feel like more things slip than get done, but all we can do is keep moving forward:)
