I've read a lot of magnificent stories about adversity and perseverance this week. It was what I had planned on writing about this month, but I'm going to go for something a little different. We have those big victories and those are great moments. Yet there are those little warm and fuzzy moments that help us too.
I'm going to share some of my warm and fuzzy writer moments with you:
A silly comment by one of your critique partners that makes you laugh out loud.
A good review from a reader who randomly came across your book.
Finishing the final draft of revisions and eating those M&Ms you've been saving for that moment.
A stranger tweets how much they're in love with your book covers.
Your beta reader says you've surprised them yet again.
An encouraging comment from a blog follower who says just the right thing at just the right time.

This post has made me really happy. Sometimes it's hard to focus on those small positives, but they really are the best and keep us striving to be even better!

For now (unpublished, yet) I'm happy when the other participants in NaHaiWriMo like and comment my poems.

I'm happy when I finish what I've started - this week two flash fiction pieces.
I'm happy that I've learn a little discipline and about book covers - you guys are incredible sources of info.
I'm a beginner so, these "little moments" can't just pass by without I notice and celebrate them.
And now after reading and commenting your post, I just have to write one on my own.

I like the moment when I read back through something and I laugh at a joke that I'd forgotten about.

ReplyDeleteThings like that are what keep me going. In fact, I've learned not to open a text or email from my favorite critter if there's beverage in my mouth. I'll invariably be cleaning it off my screen. LOL Great post!

ReplyDeleteAll of those are such lovely occurences. I had a great review that made me warm and fuzzy. And you are so right about the CP's comments. Angela Brown has made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion.

ReplyDeleteThank you, everyone! I love hearing your warm, fuzzy moments. And, okay, maybe the M&Ms got opened before I was done the revisions, but I swear, the majority of them were still there to reward me!
ReplyDeleteIf I post a little flash fiction that I'm not completely satisfied with, or know I didn't spend as much time on it as I should, but someone still says they really like it. Makes things worth the effort then.

I agree with all of those. Comments from strangers can be very meaningful. Can't they? A kind word at the right time is like... I was going to say kryptonite, but I guess it's actually the opposite. Right?
