Dog Days of Summer Blog Fest

Mmm, hotdogs. What a great name for this blogfest. Hotdogs always remind me of summer.

A big thank you to Jeremy Bates for hosting The Dog Days of Summer blogfest. This is a great way to meet some new friends and to find out what everyone's been doing this summer.

The rules are simple. Write a post about one or all three topics below:
1) Describe your favorite summer activity thus far.
2) What activities do you have planned before summer is over?
3) If you could have the ultimate vacation ever, where and what would it be?

My favorite summer activity so far is getting our new air-conditioning unit installed. Yes, we went a month without it. It was horrible. Several times I thought I died. I'm not a hot weather person.

Okay, okay. My real favorite summer activity has been going to the lake for a swim and a picnic. My son loves the water. Just watching him play is a joy.

We don't have any other summer plans. In ten days, my son will be starting preschool. A BIG event, but to me, it feels more like an autumn event. Yet if the weather gives us more opportunities, we'll take a drive to the lake and have some more fun.

As for the ultimate vacation, ooh, a complete summer-long tour of Europe. No rush to see everything. Just taking our time. See the big attractions and hunt out the gems most tourists don't get to see. I want to browse little bookshops and eat chocolate in every country.

Let us know what you've been doing this summer!

  1. Oh, your son is sooo cute! Schools start in September here. Oh, if you ever take that summer tour, please do pop in and say hi. Vienna waits for you. :) - oh there's a song with that particulare line. :D

  2. Glad to hear you got an AC unit. Sounds like an investment in sanity. Glad you're doing the hop. See you 'round!

  3. I would love air conditioning but it isn't something all that many people have here in the UK, I thought it was funny that you wanted to come to Europe when all I dream of is America lol. Love and hugs Joss xx

  4. I'm glad to hear you got the AC. I couldn't live without mine!

Your son is adorable! We need to take our kids to the beach; we haven't all summer. :(

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. I would've died without air that long.
Now that sounds like my kind of vacation. And there is so much to see in Europe. It would take a lifetime to see it all.

I'd love that vacation too! There are so many places in Europe I'd love to see - such incredible history and beauty :)

  7. I'd love a full European vacation.

I wasn't able to go to the beach too much this summer. I was either writing or it was raining.

    Your son is adorable.

  9. Your vacation does seem dreaming. I'd rather have a glass of wine in every country than chocolate.

  10. Thanks for stopping by, everyone! And yes, the AC keeps me sane and content. Scary how reliant I am on it!

  11. Oh my gosh your son is absolutely adorable! What a great picture. Starting pre-school is such a huge mile stone. I remember when my girls all started school, and I had no idea what I was supposed to do next. I drank a hot cup of coffee, and like an idiot, I watched an entire episode of "Little Bear" all by myself! LOL

  12. What a cool post, Christine--thanks for sharing! A lake--now, I haven't been in one of those for much too long, and right now the cool water sounds like a fantastic idea. The Caribbean sea is much too warm these days--and salty :) I really hope you get to take that summer-long Europe tour soon. I did it as a child with my parents and even then it was a blast. Three months of driving around, no rush and no schedule. That's something I definitely want to repeat :)

  16. Whatever did we do before AC? I never had it when I was young and we seemed to survive just fine. Maybe there really is global warming.

  17. I love your holiday idea... I could so do that too:) It's still winter here, but for summer I don't have any plans yet.. probably go for walks on the beach, eat lots of season fruit and go swimming:)

  19. Your son is adorable! I like your idea of the ultimate summer vacation - visiting book shops and eating chocolate in a lot of European countries. Except, I'd do that in the spring or fall. They don't use a lot of deodorant over there. :)

  20. Your son's a little cutie! Good luck with PreK! The beach is one of my kids favorite summer activities also. Who needs a fancy vacation when you have a lake nearby, lol.

  21. Along with the chocolate, I'd recommend stopping in Italy for the best cappuccino. You can get it everywhere, even at the grocery store!

  22. We can learn a lot of kids or relearn about enjoying the simple things in life. I do love every part of summer, the late sunsets, the warm breeze, and how food tastes so good during this part of the year!!! :)
