NaNoWriMo 2011 - day 4

Word count: 10014

I'm surprising myself with how well it's going. Why did I find it so difficult last year when my son was an infant and sleeping more? I'm lucky he's been sleeping much at all this week because he's been sick. I was worried that I wouldn't write a lot any time again until he was in preschool, but yes! I can do it.

I've been writing a lot of dialogue. Kevin Smith length dialogue. My inner editor is trying to shake down her cell to delete those last four pages. They're staying. She can revise next year. I've always had a problem with my characters talking too much. Even the quiet ones chatter on too much. I wonder what would happen if I wrote a story where everyone was mute. There's an interesting challenge.

I've been looking at everyone's word counts. You're doing amazingly! And for the few of you who had a rough start, don't worry. It's only the fourth. You've got twenty-six more days. Go for it! You can do it!

  3. Awesome word count! I didn't get as much written yesterday, but I'm hoping to knock out quite a bit this weekend.

It's no wonder it was harder when Brandon was an infant. You were probably too tired yourself to write.

You're doing awesome. Keep it up!

  4. I'm a fan of Kevin Smith so if your dialogue is similar, you are on the right track in my book.

  5. I have the same problem with my characters talking too much! I'm also fighting my inner editor. I'll change it after the first draft is done.

  7. For my last project, my characters talked WAY too much--interestingly, the MC for my NaNoWriMo novel is very quiet.

Congrats on the word count! :)

  8. Congrats on the progress. I finally caught up and passed the 5-day average last night, though just barely. Now, as long as I stick to at least the 1,667 daily average, I'll be done with a few days to spare. Here's hoping. Good luck to you!

  9. Isn't it amazing what happens when you just sit down and write. Tell that editor to 'shut the duck up', I love dialogue as long as it's interesting and moves the story forward. Spoken by she who cannot shut up.

You are doing great. The only way to lose is to quit. Never, never, never quit.
